This educational workshop is designed for operating room staff and post-operative orthopedic staff that treat and care for orthopedic and surgical trauma patients.  It is a basic introduction to the management of fractures using AO (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Osteosynthesefragen) principles and techniques, at the same time maintaining awareness of total patient care.  The content of the course will be covered by short lectures and practical hands-on workshops.
Purpose:

  • To increase participant knowledge and understanding of fracture management, the healing process of bone & how this is affected by surgical intervention.
  • To develop & improve participant skills using orthopedic fracture instrument & implants on synthetic bone models.

The objectives for this workshop are to show an understanding of the basic principles associated with operative management of fractures, demonstrate the correct/safe use of instruments and implants, and to be able to state the importance of delivering total patient care as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
