Program Description and Target Audience
“Injury is the leading cause of death in the United States and continues to occur every day and in every State of our Nation.” Some of the statistics include, “Traumatic injuries are estimated to be responsible for over 161,000 deaths each year and for an estimated death rate of 5.9 for every 100,000 persons. Trauma is the leading cause of death for Americans 35 years of age and younger, and for U.S. residents, unintentional injury ranks as the 5th most common cause of death.”1 In the State of Missouri, “unintentional injury” was the number one cause of death for ages 1 to 44 in 2005 with “unintentional injury” being the 5th most common cause of death in the state for all ages combined. 2
This conference is designed to enhance the multi-disciplinary team approach and continuing professional development to effectively manage the trauma or emergent patient. It is the goal of the multi-disciplinary team to provide the best care in order to facilitate the best possible recovery and patient outcomes. It is designed for the multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, pre-hospital, respiratory therapists, hospital chaplains, radiologic technologists, and all other healthcare personnel working with this patient population.
