Oncology Certified Nurse Review Course

The the Heart of the Ozarks chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society and the CoxHealth Education Center are proud to offer a one-day course designed as a comprehensive review for nurses preparing to take the exam or current Oncology Certified Nurses desiring a refresher.

This course has been collaboratively provided by the Heart of the Ozarks chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society and the CoxHealth Education Center.

  • The Heart of the Ozarks chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society has provided financial support for this course; and
  • The CoxHealth Education Center is responsible for ensuring ANCC requirements and providing CNE credit for this course.

There is no charge to attend this course for qualifying participants.

Qualifying Participants include:

  • Oncology Registered Nurses who are eligible for OCN exam and anticipate sitting for the exam. Eligibility criteria include:
    • A current, active, unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse.
    • A minimum of one year (12 months) of experience as an RN within the last three years (36 months), and
    • A minimum of 1,000 hours of adult oncology nursing practice within the last two-and-one-half years (30 months). Nursing practice may be in clinical practice, nursing administration, education, research or consultation.
  • Oncology Registered Nurses who are currently OCN-certified exam who desire to attend a refresher course.

Learning outcomes have been developed per the type of attendee.

For not currently OCN-certified participants:

  • After attending the Oncology Certified Nurse Review Course, participants will express an increase in confidence in application of the knowledge of the Oncology Certified Nurse test blueprint content areas.
  • After attending the Oncology Certified Nurse Review Course, participants will express an increase in their readiness to sit for the Oncology Certified Nurse test.
  • After attending the Oncology Certified Nurse Review Course, participants will be able to identify three concepts learned that will improve, enhance, or change their practice.

For currently OCN-certified participants:

  • After attending the Oncology Certified Nurse Review Course, participants will be able to identify three concepts learned that will improve, enhance, or change their practice.

Requirements of Successful Completion

Participants will be awarded their statement of credit upon receipt of a completed evaluation.

Christine F. Rimkus, RN, MSN, AOCN

Course instructor Christine Rimkus, RN, MSN, AOCN has over 30 years of experience in oncology nursing; her career has been spent as an oncology staff nurse, nurse manager, nurse educator, and–most recently–as a clinical nurse specialist taking care of inpatient and outpatient bone marrow transplant patients. Ms. Rimkus is actively engaged in oncology research, she has been published in several peer-reviewed journals and has presented numerous lectures at the local, regional, and national levels. She has helped over 1000 registered nurses prepare for the Oncology Certified Nurse test since she began providing review courses in 2004. Please join us as she provides an evidence-based comprehensive review of oncology nursing.

The Cox South Campus is located at 3801 S National Avenue, Springfield, MO 65807. Please enter the hospital at the North Entrance, nearest Primrose Street

Participants who are not CoxHealth employees may park in any guest parking locations. Free valet parking is available. CoxHealth employees must park in designated employee parking areas.

Foster Auditorium is located on the first floor of Cox South. After entering from the North Entrance, proceed straight until the Gift Shop/elevator bank. Turn left at the Gift Shop towards the Cafeteria. Foster Auditorium is located at the end of the hallway.
