Course Information:

Description and Target Audience: This American Heart Association (AHA) workshop is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of the hospital. The AHA has developed this ACLS course for currently active healthcare providers (eg, medical, nursing, emergency medical, or allied health personnel) whose daily occupation or volunteer activities demand proficiency in the knowledge and skills of ACLS. This course is for current ACLS providers wishing to renew their status.

Testing:  Successful completion of:

Written exam (50 questions) with a minimum passing score of 84%.

One-on-one skills demonstration testing.

Course Length: 7 hours (This is a one-day course)

Certification Length: 2 years

Includes: Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Manual and AHA completion eCard.

CoxHealth Education Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Midwest Multistate Division, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

6.0 contact hours

CoxHealth Prehospital Services is an approved provider of continuing education by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Bureau of EMS. This activity has been approved for 6.0 contact hours. The Training Center number is 07710C.

Per the Department of Insurance, Financial Institutions and Professional Registration, Division 2255-Missouri Board for Respiratory Care, 20 CSR 2255-4.010 Continuing Education Requirements, Section 6-C, “Six (6) hours will be awarded for the successful completion of a course (excluding preparatory courses) related to Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS/Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Programs identified within this subsection will not require pre-approval by AARC, its state affiliates or the board for acceptance as hours towards fulfilling the continuing education requirement. However, not more than a total of twelve (12) hours will be awarded for any combination of the above mentioned programs during a two (2)-year period.” Contact hours is 6.0 for this activity.

This activity has been approved by CoxHealth for 4.0 hours of STEMI credit for CoxHealth employees.

Requirements of successful completion must be met in order to receive a statement of credit and an AHA completion eCard. Requirements of successful completion include:  sign-in at the registration desk, attendance at the entire course, and successful completion of skills testing and a written exam with a score of 84% or greater.

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in BLS, ACLS, and PALS and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the American Heart Association. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials; do not represent income to the Association.
